Glaciations intensified, periods of great cold alternating with milder periods.

The seas froze, humans moved from Africa and settled everywhere.

It is the most recent era, the one in which we still live today.

In this era, human evolution took place.

2.5 million years ago
The first of the genus Homo appeared: Homo habilis (skilful), hunted and built simple tools.

1.5 million years ago
Homo erectus appeared and knew how to use fire.

300,000 years ago
Neanderthal man appeared; he became extinct 30,000 years ago.

200,000 years ago
Homo sapiens, our species, appeared.
